A Brief History

Fortress Availability Services Limited (FortressAS) is an award-winning innovator in the field of Enterprise Security and Resilience.

In 2016, we had a blank sheet of paper and consulted with over 200 London companies to understand the current and future security and resilience needs of Financial Services and Law Firms.

With that information and over 30 years experience we designed services and solutions that reduce the risk of and mitigate the impact of crises on businesses.

Our recent win of the Service Provider of the Year bears testament to the team’s commitment to this ongoing innovation and a focus on delivering real value.

We now support many of the world’s biggest names in Financial Services and Law.

Innovation and Customer Service

FortressAS has built the most advanced work area recovery facilities and innovative infrastructure resiliency services to support firms to meet regulatory requirements and as they manage and maintain the rapid transformation of their staff to Home Working.

We also work with the world’s leading security technology vendors to deliver solutions and managed services to protect customers from the ever increasing cyber threat, particularly as our security perimeters dissolve and our resources move to the cloud.

We have also used our drive for innovation to develop Home Assessment and Management services to ensure that those working from home do so safely and securely.

FortressAS Leadership Team

Andrew Lawton - Founder and CEO

Andrew has successfully built and lead businesses for 25 years. He has learned in that time that customers gravitate to and stay with suppliers that deliver value and are good people to do business with.

Andrew’s broad experience spans senior positions in large companies, such as HP and IBM, and in smaller, fast growing companies, such as Safetynet, Guardian, and ISS (Internet Security Systems).

He has repeatedly demonstrated his ability to develop a vision and execute on that vision, enthusing, mentoring and guiding teams to over performance.

“It was clear to me that the huge amount of consolidation in the business continuity market in London over the past decade had left customers with very little choice. They were also unhappy with those choices and so we have worked hard at Fortress to address those customer needs, and to deliver quality and value”, explains Andrew.

Paul Barry-Walsh - Chairman

Paul was an early groundbreaker in the business continuity market in the UK with his founding of Safetynet in 1985. This grew to be one of the UK’s leading and most innovative providers of BC and was sold to Guardian dr for £170M in 2000.

Paul has since invested in and grown a number of successful businesses and founded Fredericks Foundation, a charity to help young and underprivileged entrepreneurs.

Christian Sookool - Operations Director

Christian is a highly experienced technical and operational leader driving and delivering customer excellence across all Business Continuity Recovery Services. He has built and operated work area recovery facilities many times across the UK, Europe and India.

Christian has over 26 years experience and direct involvement with over 140 invocations and 2000 customers DR Tests.

He is also a popular team leader with the ability to motivate, lead and enthuse teams and build strong loyalty.

“We were lucky that we had a clean sheet of paper when designing the facilities and infrastructure. The result is the fastest recovery possible, anywhere,” says Christian.

Keith Tilley - Non-Executive Director

With close to 40 years of business operations and sales leadership experience Keith Tilley was most recently (until Oct 2017) Executive Vice President and Vice-Chair of Sungard Availability Services (Sungard AS).

Holding global responsibility for market strategy, marketing, channels and consulting. Keith provided executive sponsorship for major customers and prospects, focusing on creating opportunities to drive growth and success of the company, while ensuring the company delivers to meet its customers’ business objectives.

Laura Symons - Marketing Director

Laura has over 20 years experience in Sales and Marketing and particularly of successfully driving the growth of medium sized IT Services companies.
