We have more than 60 years combined experience building and running world class Business Continuity and Cybersecurity companies.

The Fortress Difference

Fortress Availability Services Limited (Fortress) was formed specifically to answer the Business Continuity needs of modern business. We had a blank sheet of paper and, after consulting with over 200 London companies, designed services that relate to the way that modern businesses work and want to recover.

With significant investment and support from industry veterans, Fortress management and executives bring a combined heritage of over 60 years of business continuity knowledge and experience.

In 2016, we asked the people that know best about what services they need, the Customers. Fortress undertook extensive market consultation exercise over 9 months, talking to over 200 organisations to ensure that the services that we developed were relevant and truly address current needs.

It was clear that there was dissatisfaction with current providers and services and we knew that the services could be improved and delivered in a more flexible and customer centric way.

Financial Strength and Leadership

Fortress is unique in the industry in that the entire business and the Recovery Centre are debt free. There are no bank loans or leases. The entire company is funded by investment.

Further investment is earmarked for upcoming expansion to new sites, planned for 2018.

Innovation and Added Value

Fortress has now built the most advanced work area recovery facility in the UK, and potentially the world. Our innovative and flexible services have this centre as the foundation.

Our Recovery Centre infrastructure is underpinned by the latest hardware and software, including Cat6 throughout, very fast WiFi and the latest in Ghost technology to enable us to recover Customer Images to the entire centre within just 8 minutes.

The Fortress services and how we deliver them address not only the technical requirements but also the service delivery requirements of our customers. Customer satisfaction underpins everything that we do.

We are very proud of our new centre and services but we will always listen to our Customers to understand what we can do next and how we can improve and will always deliver local, personal, service led interactions from both a commercial and technical perspective.

Fortress Leadership Team

Paul Barry-Walsh – Chairman

Paul was an early groundbreaker in the business continuity market in the UK with his founding of Safetynet in 1985. This grew to be one of the UK’s leading and most innovative providers of BC and was sold to Guardian dr for £170M in 2000.

Paul has since invested in and grown a number of successful businesses and founded Fredericks Foundation, a charity to help young and underprivileged entrepreneurs.

“I am really excited about the way Fortress is disrupting a stagnant market in which the incumbent players have gone to sleep. The company is delivering more relevant and modern work area recovery services.”, Paul comments.

Andrew Lawton – Founder and CEO

Andrew has successfully built and lead businesses for 20 years. He has learned in that time that customers gravitate to and stay with suppliers that deliver value and are good people to do business with.

Andrew’s broad experience spans senior positions in large companies, such as HP and IBM, and in smaller, fast growing companies, such as Safetynet, Guardian, and ISS (Internet Security Systems).

He has repeatedly demonstrated his ability to develop a vision and execute on that vision, enthusing, mentoring and guiding teams to over performance.

“It was clear to me that the huge amount of consolidation in the business continuity market in London over the past decade had left customers with very little choice. They were also unhappy with those choices and so we have worked hard at Fortress to address those customer needs, and to deliver quality and value”, explains Andrew.

Keith Tilley – Non-Executive Director

With close to 40 years of business operations and sales leadership experience Keith Tilley was most recently (until Oct 2017) Executive Vice President and Vice-Chair of Sungard Availability Services (Sungard AS).

Keith brings huge experience in market strategy, marketing, channels and consulting. He will provide non-executive sponsorship for major customers and prospects, focusing on driving the growth and success of the company, while ensuring the company delivers to meet its customers’ business objectives.

Christian Sookool – Operations Director

Christian is a very experienced technical and operational leader driving and delivering customer excellence across all Business Continuity Recovery Services. He has built and operated work area recovery facilities many times across the UK, Europe and India.

Christian has over 26 years experience and direct involvement with over 140 invocations and 2000 customers DR Tests.

He is also a popular team leader with the ability to motivate, lead and enthuse teams and build strong loyalty.

“We were lucky that we had a clean sheet of paper when designing the facilities and infrastructure. The result is the fastest recovery possible, anywhere,” says Christian.
